Pelargonium graveolens

According to folklore, geranium oil has long been used for a wide range of health conditions. Derived by steam distillation of the pink flowering tops, where it gets its strong yet feminine floral aroma, geranium essential oil is often studied for antibacterial and hormone balancing qualities. According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, the oil, when diffused for aromatic use, promotes reduced feelings of anxiety – so much so that it is recommended as a noninvasive means of achieving a sense of calm during highly stressful times. Research has shown the oil’s antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antiseptic qualities, when used topically, can help reduce the appearance of acne, blemishes, skin irritation, and other skin infections.
